David Carl Allison was born on 25 February 1961 in Hollywood as the eldest child of Bobby and Julie Allison. During his lifetime he built a fine reputation as Robert Yates Racing’s best NASCAR driver, driving their #28 Texaco-Havoline Ford. Bobby Allison was a NASCAR driver, and it was inevitable that Davey Allison would follow in his father’s footsteps. The Allison family moved to Alabama and, together with Bobby’s brother, Donnie and two family friends, namely Neil Bonnett and Red Farmer, everyone in the racing circles knew them as the Alabama Gang.

After graduating from high school, Davey began working with Bobby Allison’s Winston Cup Team during the day, and at night Davey and his friends (affectionately known as the Peach Fuzz Gang) worked on Davey’s Chevy Nova. Birmingham International Raceway, in 1979, was the start to Davey Allison’s career. He had managed to secure a win in his sixth start and regularly won the BIR. By the year 1983, Davey had worked his way up to the Automobile Racing Club of America Series or ARCA. In the same year, he took the first place in both the ARCA events that took place at the Talledega Superspeedway, and in 1984 he received the ARCA Rookie of the Year, after the series title placed him second, and that same year he married Deborah.

Harry Ranier had been keeping a close eye on Davey, and had already chosen him to replace Cale Yarborough, who at that time was racing the Ranier-Lundy #28 Ford Thunderbird, but was leaving to start his own venture with Hardee’s. The date, 3 May 1987, would be remembered in the NASCAR history. The qualifying times for the Winston 500 that were held at the Talledega Superspeedway, set the scene for a spectacular show-down. Bill Elliot and Bobby Allison would start alongside each other, with first and second place, respectively. Davey Allison would pull away in third place. Bobby Allison drove over debris on the 22nd lap, cutting his rear tire and causing his car to slide, lift and crash into the spectator fence. The race ended up being red flagged for almost four hours, due to a few injured spectators. Bobby Allison walked away without injury.

Davey was still upfront when the race resumed, and Bill Elliot was forced to drop out of the race due to engine failure. Starting second on the restart, Davey managed to pass the race leader, Dale Earnhardt, and became the first rookie, since 1981 when Ron Bouchard won, to win a Winston Cup Event. Davey would go on to many disappointments, near death accidents and team changes, but he won a number of races in spectacular fashion. His wins include the Budweiser 500 in 1987, the Champion Spark Plug 400 and Miller High Life 400 in 1988, the Winston 500 and Pepsi 400 in 1989, the Valleydale Meats 500 and Mello Yello 500 in 1990, clocking up an amazing five wins in 1991, being the Coca-Cola 600, Banquet Frozen Foods 300, Miller Genuine Draft 400, AC Delco 500 and Pyroil 500, with another five wins in 1992, being the Daytona 500, First Union 400, Winston 500, Miller Genuine Draft 400 and Pyroil 500K. Davey ended his career with winning the Pontiac Excitement 400 in 1993.

On 12 July 1993, Davey Allison was underway to Neil and David Bonnet who were test driving a new car for David Bonnets Busch Series debut, in his new Hughes 396 helicopter. Red Farmer, another legendary driver, had joined Allison on the trip. On landing, the helicopter suddenly nosed up and crashed to the ground. Neil was able to free Red Farmer, but had to wait for Paramedics to free Davey. Davey Allison died on 13 July 1993, leaving behind his second wife, Liz, and two children. In 1998, Davey Allison was inducted in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Kyle Petty is a successful NASCAR driver, descending and descendent from a line of racers going back to his grandfather Lee Petty. Not only is NASCAR driver Kyle Petty known for his racing achievements but he is also a respected business executive and an outstanding example in the community.

Kyle Petty was born in Randleman of North Carolina, USA on 2 June 1960. His father Richard Petty and grandfather Lee Petty were already big names in the world of NASCAR. A fine sportsman from a young age, Petty was offered a number of scholarships because of his baseball, basketball and football skills. He was even told by an agent in Nashville that he had the potential to become a country music star. Despite this, racing was his chosen career.

In 1979 Kyle Petty began his career in NASCAR. His first race, the Daytona ARCA 200, saw him steering his stock car to victory. Petty also raced in 5 Cup races that same year, even making it into the top-10. The 3rd generation NASCAR driver began his full Cup racing schedule in 1981. That year he came in 12th with his points. Before the 1985 season Kyle Petty left Petty Enterprises to join the Wood Brothers. In 1986 Petty scored his first win at a race in Richmond of Virginia. He ranked 10th in 1986 and moved up to 7th in 1987. Petty raced for SABCO between 1990 and 1997. Two highlights in Petty’s career were when he came 5th in point standings for 1992 and 1993. He decided to take his team back to Level Cross in 1998. In that year he was named NASCAR USG Person of the Year. Petty continues to race under the banner of Petty Enterprises.

Beyond NASCAR driving, Kyle Petty is involved in a number of community and charity programs. To honor his charitable contributions he was given the title True Value “Man of the Year” in 1998 as well as the NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated’s “Person of the Year” award in 1999. Petty established the Kyle Petty’s Charity Ride Across America in 1995. This ride is held in aid of a number of children’s charities. Other charities with which Petty is associated are the NEXTEL Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary, Boy Scouts of America and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Why not join in making a contribution to one of Kyle Petty’s charitable projects.

Kansas Speedway is conveniently located just 15 miles from downtown of Kansas City in the USA. With a history extending back to 1996, Kansas Speedway is a relatively young NASCAR track. Providing great NASCAR racing and top facilities, a day spent at Kansas Speedway is well worth it. NASCAR track Kansas Speedway is host to numerous events including NASCAR, IRL and ARCA races as well as community programs and driving schools. This great racing track is always filled with fun and good times, so why not check it out.

In October of 1996 the International Speedway Corporation came up with the idea to construct a race track in the Midwest of the USA. They selected Kansas City in 1997 as the site of a new speedway. 1998 saw the approval of financing for the project and construction began. In July 1999 the Kansas Speedway launched ticket sales with a great initiative, the Found Fan PASS which would allow ticket holders access to the best seats and other benefits. The NASCAR and the IRL made an announcement in May 2000 that they will be including events at Kansas Speedway on their calendar in 2001. On 21 August 2000 tickets for Kansas city Speedway went on sale internationally, and within 5 days almost 80% of all the tickets for the inaugural season were sold.

Visitors were allowed into Kansas Speedway for the first time on 2 June 2001 to watch the NASCAR Winston West Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series. In May 2001 the Kansas Speedway was named a tourism leader by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and awarded accordingly. The first NASCAR Winston Cup Series to be held at Kansas Speedway took place on 29 September 2001 with Jeff Gordon gaining the victory. Since then the Kansas Speedway continues to attract massive crowds of eager racing fans to watch a number of thrilling events.

Kansas Speedway is a tri-oval track measuring 1.5 miles. The banking is 15 degrees in the turns and the track pavement width is at 55 feet. This fine speedway makes use of the SAFER Barrier (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction System). The grandstands are able to seat some 82 000 spectators and are set to be increased to a 150 000 capacity. Free parking is available for over 65 000 vehicles and visitors are certain to be able to make use of public transportation on race days. So, if NASCAR racing is your passion, head off to Kansas Speedway.

Located in Sparta, Kentucky, the Kentucky Speedway has played host to some of America’s most popular racing events, including the NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, IRL IndyCar Series, IRL Firestone Indy Lights, and the ARCA RE/MAX Series. It is a 1.5 mile tri-oval track measuring 70 feet wide with 12 foot shoulders and turns banked at 14 degrees. The grandstands have a seating capacity of more than 60,000 with a 2,000 seat Bluegrass Club and plenty of camping spaces and facilities to accommodate the crowds of racing enthusiasts attracted to the track by its program of events.

Some of the “firsts” recorded for the Kentucky Speedway include the first race on June 16, 2000, being the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series “Kentucky 150”. The attendance at the event was 36,210 and the winner was Bill Bigley Jr., with an average speed of 111.747 mph in his #28 Peerless Woodworking/Nevamar Decorative Services Chevrolet. The purse was set at $95,050. The first pole sitter at this inaugural event was Brian Smith in his #20 Juba Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo, with a qualifying time of 150.038 mph. The first winning crew chief was Bill Bigley, Sr.

In May 2008, Speedway Motorsports bought Kentucky Speedway from Jerry Carroll, with the deal finalized in October of that year. Its been reported that the new owners aim to secure a place in the NASCAR Sprint Series, but as at the end of 2009 this had not yet become a reality. Nonetheless, Kentucky Speedway continues to host the other events mentioned at the outset, offering auto racing enthusiasts a world-class venue to enjoy their favorite fast-paced sport.

NASCAR and the Automobile Racing Club of America (“ARCA”) started at about the same point-that is towards the middle of the last century. ARCA has not been able to match the scorching growth of NASCAR, but it does have a devoted following. Why is this?

Firstly, ARCA, like the Nextel Series of NASCAR, promotes racing with stock cars. ARCA fans delight in knowing that the skills on display at an ARCA event are with cars that they can buy and drive in real life. The engineering sophistication of F1 auto racing may produce incredible acceleration, but the heroes behind the wheel may do poorly in your own car! Real car racing fans appreciate the authenticity of ARCA auto racing. Some ARCA events use cars discarded by NASCAR, and it is fascinating in auto racing terms to find out how such old machines can be driven by people with top skills.

ARCA is also a valuable stepping stone in an auto racing career with NASCAR in sight. Many drivers have started their careers in ARCA events before going on to exploits on the NASCAR circuit. ARCA plays an important supporting role in providing training grounds and exposure for future champions. You should spend time at ARCA races if you want to be the first to spot future NASCAR drivers!

There are technical aspects of car racing, in which many people believe that ARCA sets the standards for even more popular bodies such as NASCAR. ARCA’s system of awarding points for participation, consistency, and duration, are exemplary. Drivers and teams gain when they commit to race. They are rewarded in terms of points proportional to how they perform. You gain if you do especially well in a lap, and even more if you can hold on to your own performance level for more than one lap. Finally, there are bonuses for continuous participation over the course of a season. You have to work hard to move ahead in ARCA, and that is just what is required to raise NASCAR standards in turn.

You can add to your auto racing pleasure by including ARCA in your race attendance calendar for the year! ARCA includes truck racing as well for your benefit.
