Tayler Malsam Gets Ready To Hit NASCAR

Tayler Malsam has already been tearing up tar strips across the country in preparation for his big NASCAR debut. Now, it seems, the moment he has spent the past few months preparing for is finally here – Malsam will be making his inaugural start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which will be taking place this coming Wednesday in Bristol, Tennessee.

Commenting on his forthcoming NASCAR debut last week, Malsam said: “It’s going to be crazy, we’re getting pretty excited. We’re going to run about five (truck series) races this year.” Malsam will certainly be facing some tough competition when he hits the racetrack next Wednesday. The Mill Creek, Washington, resident will be facing up against the likes of Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Johnny Benson. Jimmie Johnson is the defending Sprint Cup champion and he will certainly provide a stiff challenge to the newcomer, while Cup points leader Kyle Busch certainly won’t be any easier to race against. Busch already has two truck series wins under his belt so far this year and he is looking to become one of the few legendary drivers who have won all three of the NASCAR national series races at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Johnny Benson has already got three straight victories to his name and he will be looking to claim his fourth in a row in order to become the first driver to have managed to claim four consecutive wins in the series. A number of others have already tried and failed but as the current series point leader, Benson hopes to change all that.

In addition to these top guns, Malsam will be racing against all nine of the drivers who have already won races so far this season. Nevertheless, it seems he isn’t too intimidated – in fact he expects to get “thrown around like a ragdoll” but is confident that “it’ll be fun”. Malsam will be making his debut in a No.41 Dodge Ram, which he will be driving for CHS Motorsports, a division of Cunningham Motorsports. Malsam already has a good relationship with Cunningham and has been driving stock cars for them in the ARCA RE/MAX series this season. He has already driven an ARCA car on the track but has yet to find out exactly how tough it is to navigate the track when there are an additional 40 cars on it with him. The race will be televised on the SPEED channel and will start around 16:30.
