If you’re looking for a great way to spend your weekend, look no further than the 2008 Super Chevy Show. This year the show will be taking place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the first time ever and fans will get to enjoy a variety of races and racing styles all in the course of one weekend.

The 2008 Super Chevy Show will be taking place on October 3-5, 2008. No better venue could have been found for the event and the various activities will be taking place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway’s AMS infield, which includes the Media Centre Lot, the Nationwide Garage, the Pit-Road Drag Strip and the Sprint Cup Garage. Fans will be able to park their vehicles in the AMS front parking areas and enter through gate 15. Those who want to be part of all the action and who don’t feel like travelling backwards and forwards can make use of the camping facilities.

So what kind of excitement can you expect to see at the 2008 Super Chevy Show? No doubt the King of the Street drag racing competition will prove to be most popular. The competition is ‘old school’ and is timed using hand-flagged starts instead of the more modern method of electronic ‘trees’. The 1/8-mile races will only feature Chevy vehicles, providing the ultimate showcase of the immense power that these machines are capable of. Other aspects of the show to look forward to include a jet car showcase, a collector car auction, a massive Show N’ Shine competition sponsored by GM, a vendor midway, a trade show and a swap meet and car corral. The car auction, which will take place on Saturday, promises to be quite good with a variety of collector and classic cars on display at the infield Sprint Cup garage. The entire event will be arranged by Potts Auction Company. Other racing action at the event worth seeing is the open drag racing for any GM dragster, bracket car or street car.

The price of attending on the Friday is $10 for adults and juniors (11-15 years). On Saturday and Sunday things get a bit more expensive at $22 for adults. A weekend pass for adults is $32 while a weekend pass for juniors is only $12. Children 10 and under will be admitted for free.

The Atlanta Motor Speedway is an awesome, intermediate track that at one point boasted the highest speeds on the NASCAR circuit. Even today it is still one of the fastest tracks on the circuit and fans who come here know that they are in for brilliant, action-packed racing each time. Little wonder then that the Atlanta Motor Speedway already has a full calendar for the months of September and October.

The racing action will get underway on September 11 with the NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive. The event is designed to encourage people to become both blood and marrow donors, thus bringing out the goodwill of the community. It will also provide fans with exciting opportunities, since each fan who donates will be given a pace car ride, which will be provided courtesy of Atlanta Motor Speedway. The event will take place between 10:00 and 19:00 and it is advisable that you register for it ahead of time.

After that, it’s a few weeks before the action gets really exciting. The Super Chevy Show will kick off on October 3 to 5 with drag racing, show-n-shine, vendor midway, swap meet and car corral and match race madness with the Queen of Diamonds Jet Car. Nostalgic 409 Super Stocks and some of the biggest Chevy powered dragsters in the country will add more punch to the show’s line-up. This one is not to be missed.

On October 12 the Atlanta Motor Speedway will play host to the March of the Dimes “Ride to the Speedway”. This annual event will include live entertainment, a number of displays by different vendors and plenty of yummy food and refreshing beverages. Visitors will be given the chance to climb the banks of the speedway on their favorite motorcycle as well as have the option of taking a ride in a balloon or a helicopter. The event is for charity and proceeds are given to the March of Dimes and saving Georgia’s children.

On October 18 Corvettes gather to fight Breast Cancer on the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The event, which is run by Corvettes Serving America Foundation Incorporated, is designed to promote breast cancer awareness. Corvettes Against Breast Cancer VI will also help to raise funds for this cause.

October 24 will see the world’s top drivers come together at the raceway to take part in the Hot Shot NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying. Visitors will also get to see practice sessions for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The Pep Boys Auto 500 NASCAR race weekend will then continue on October 25 when the Atlanta 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race gets underway with 135 grueling laps of tough truck racing. The day’s events will also include two NASCAR Sprint Cup practice sessions and Legends racing. October 26 sees the grand climax of the weekend’s racing with the Pep Boys Auto 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race. This is the seventh race in the championship and promises to offer unimaginable excitement. So book your tickets now for these fantastic events!
